
51st District Republican State Senator Chapin Rose has announced that his bill banning carbon sequestration and storage beneath the Mahomet Aquifer has been enacted into law by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.
The bill passed the General Assembly with bipartisan support and bans the injection and keeping of carbon dioxide from beneath the aquifer. which provides drinking water for over 500,000 residents, many residing in Rose's district.
Rose praised the efforts of his constituents in the region who made calls, sent e-mails and testified in hearings to legislators and stood up to protect their clean water supply. The legislation titled SB 1723 will go into effect on January 1st of 2026.
