An investigation into what exactly happened following a weekend Riverton Parke High School boys basketball game is complete, according to district officials.
The investigation stemmed from an incident following the Panthers beating Providence Cristo Ret Saturday afternoon in Parke County.
According to Superintendent Dr. Phil Harrison, video was reviewed and it shows a student from the visiting school strike a Riverton Parke student. Parents from both schools immediately stepped in to break up the fight, as law enforcement and medical personnel also responded.
In recent days, social media has been all abuzz with accusations of racist comments and taunts made by Riverton Parke, something Harrison said was unfounded.
"Social media reports of this situation have included accusations of racism on the part of Riverton Parke High School and its students. Such accusations are extremely hurtful to the school, its students and its staff members. Interviews were conducted with those who were present -- students, staff members and game officials -- do not corroborate the accusation of racism in this incident," Harrison said.
