Plymouth Building Commissioner Dennis Manuwal has provided Nilesh Patel, the owner of the Red Rock Inn on North Michigan Street with an order to take action. All eight items on the list must be addressed before anyone can move back into the motel.
Last Friday an Emergency Order to Evacuate was sent to the owner of Red Rock Inn. It requires the remaining individuals, couples and families living on the first floor of the Red Rock Inn to leave the facility by Friday, October 31. On the day of the Emergency Order, October 17th, there were 33 adults and 5 children living in the motel.
The first order is to evacuate the premises within 14 days if a fire watch has been implemented.
The second item is to comply with all previous orders.
Third requires extermination of all vermin and pests in and about the unsafe premises. The exterminator must provide a report to the City of Plymouth.
The fourth item on the list requires an electrical inspection be completed by an electrician registered with the City of Plymouth on the electrical system to verify the systems capability.
Fifth requires the Red Rock owner to have the electrician that perform the inspection provide the City of Plymouth with the report of their findings. That electrician must remedy all deficiencies that are found.
The sixth requirement wants a fire alarm company registered with the city to test the smoke and fire alarm system. They must provide the city with their report and fix all deficiencies in the system.
The Plymouth Building Department is requiring an IDEM air quality test as number seven. Once completed a report will be provided to the city.
The final requirement is for a licensed plumber registered with the city to evaluate the plumbing system. The plumber must provide the city a report and fix all deficiencies found.
The order to the Patels states, “If you do not comply with this order and substantially begin repairs withing fourteen days, the City of Plymouth may direct a contractor to perform the repairs at your cost and/or may seek enforcement of the order in Marshall Superior Court. The city can include all costs incurred, including court costs and the assessment of a civil penalty against the owner not to exceed $2,500.
