Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters updated the Marshall County Commissioners on several bridge projects during their meeting on Monday.
NIPSCO will respond to Peters regarding the gas line relocation project on Bridge No. 1 on Ule Trail. They have set a tentative start date of Aug. 25 with a completion date of Sept. 26. They were initially approved to start on Oct. 28, 2024, with completion on July 13, 2025.
Peters said the contractor wants to begin mid-August, so he’s trying to get NIPSCO to expedite the relocation project.
Progress on the reconstruction of Bridge 232, the Randolph Street bridge in Plymouth, continues at a faster pace. Peters presented a change order from LaPorte Construction for the preliminary intermediate completion of the bridge, which moved to Aug. 22.
Peters told the commissioner the bridge deck was poured last week, and the conduit for the lighting was installed. This week, they will finish prepping the approaches to the bridge and pour them. A second crew will be mobilized on site and begin site grading for the road, set storm structures on the south side, and place curbs. LaPorte Construction also plans to start pouring the sidewalk on the bridge deck.
Peters told the County Commissioners the bridge will be open for pedestrians and trams for the Blueberry Festival on Aug.29 through Sept. 1. He mentioned that there may be barricades in place to keep people away from incomplete areas.
Following the festival, LaPorte Construction will return to close the bridge and complete the finishing work.
