Plymouth Police Dept. to red-tag vehicles beginning Oct.

The Plymouth Police Department will start red-tagging vehicles in yards and on the streets that appear to be abandoned or in violation of the Plymouth Code of Ordinances Chapter 90 or Indiana IC Code 9-13-2-1.

This effort will include but is not limited to, vehicles with improper or no registration, inoperable vehicles, vehicles sinking in the ground, or flat tires. This is not just for cars and trucks but also includes boats, trailers, and parts.

Plymouth Police Chief Joh Weir encourages city residents to read the local ordinance or Indiana IC Code to understand the particulars. He said, “We are attempting to clean up some areas that have had complaints over the summer, along with getting the streets cleared for leaf pickup and then the winter clearing of the streets.”

The police chief said, “This news release was distributed to the local media with hopes that they will put it out to the public, so it doesn't come as a surprise when you see someone from the city visiting your neighborhood! We would much rather you take care of any issues so we can work on other complaints!”

Chapter 90 of the Plymouth Code of Ordinances is five and a half pages long and provides definitions of abandoned vehicles, their owners, parts, public and private property, vehicles, and what is visible from public property. The ordinance also explains in detail the process of removal and disposal of abandoned vehicles on private and rental properties, along with a few exemptions and penalties.
