The Illinois State Fire Marshalls Office, the National Weather Service and local and area firefighting agencies have issued an Elevated Fire Risk Warning for the entire GIANT-FM WAKO listening area.
There is the danger of fire with sustained wind speeds at 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 25 to 35 mph along with extremely dry conditions being the main concerns. Low humidity values also keep the region dry.
These types of conditions will make it possible for wildfires to ignite and spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is no recommended. Those working outside should use extra caution while operating outdoor equipment around dry vegetation and people are also being asked to not carelessly discard burning cigarettes outdoors. There is a forecast of rain for the region in the future which could help alleviate the situation.
