The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety considered two requests during their meeting on Monday.
The first request was from the Marshall County Historical Society. Mike Miley, President of the Society said they will be having a large motor coach bus bringing visitors to the museum on Tuesday, June 25th and Thursday, June 27th. The visitors are attending the National Lincoln Highway Association annual conference in Elkhart this year and will visit the Marshall County Museum, have lunch and have a walking tour of downtown to look at the historical architecture.
Miley said they felt parking the bus on the north side of the museum would be the best option and asked to have those spaces blocked off from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Miley commented that it is quite an honor to have the organization visit the museum.
The Board of Public Works and Safety approved the request 5-0.
The second request was from Curtis Nordman, a math teacher at Plymouth High School. He asked the Board of Works to close Baker Street from Randolph Street and to the east to the main entrance of River Park Manufactured community on Sunday, May 5th for the Steps for Stegs Fun Run and 5K Fundraiser.
Haley Church Stegelmann is an art teacher at Plymouth High School and late last year her husband, Nathan was diagnosed with ALS. Proceeds from the run and race and donations will help the Stegelmanns purchase an ADA accessible van, wheelchair, and home renovations that will be needed to accommodate Nathan’s changing needs.
Mr. Nordman said over 700 have signed up for the event so far and School Resource Officer Bridget Hite and Police Chief John Weir will be working the event for security and safety.
The Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved the request after checking with the Plymouth Fire Chief, Police Chief and Street Superintendent.
