Plymouth Board of Public Works & Safety opened quotes for asbestos removal at The Pointe

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety opened quotes for the remediation of asbestos at The Pointe Apartments at 309 Gibson Street. The asbestos must be professionally removed before the city can move forward with the demolition of the structure.

In August Hunter Transit was awarded the demolition project with a quote of $55,101.20.

Three quotes were opened during the meeting.

Environmental Services, Inc. from North Liberty submitted a quote of $80,534, which includes the removal of the ACM popcorn ceilings under full negative air containment and the removal of any floor tiles and mastics. This work would take 5 weeks to complete.

Environmental Management Specialists (EMS), Inc. of Huntertown, IN, submitted a quote of $99,309.20 for the removal and disposal of up to 7,000 square feet of asbestos-containing ceiling textures for The Pointe. They also quoted $29,613.72 for removing 5,630 square feet of asbestos flooring. The total price for ceiling and floor removal is $128,922.92. Removal of the ceiling would take 5 weeks, and the flooring would take an additional week.

Specialty Systems of South Bend provided a quote of $199,900 for the removal and disposal of the asbestos ceiling tiles. The alternate bid for removal of the flooring was $28,150 if the concrete is to be recycled. The total of the two quotes is $228,050. The non-friable asbestos flooring can remain in place during demolition as long as it is not being recycled.

Building Commissioner Dennis Manuwal was approved to take the three quotes under advisement for review with a recommendation to be presented at the next city meeting on Monday, January 26th.
