Officer Fisher with the Plymouth Police Department was running radar in the area of U.S. 30 West of Oak Drive on Friday, May 10th at approximately 8:20 in the evening when he noticed a vehicle travelling east on 30 going 93 mph in a 50-mph zone.
When Officer Fisher turned around on the vehicle, the vehicle cut across in front of other vehicles to get off U.S. 30 and turned south on Oak Drive at a fast speed. The vehicle then turned into Sherwood Tire and tried losing the officer by pulling towards the back of the building.
The driver was later identified as Alaya Douangpanya, 18, of Akron, Ohio. She as taken into custody and transported to Marshall County Jail and booked in for Reckless Driving. Her cash bond was paid at 10:30 and she was released on bond.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
