‘No Kings’ protests held in Logansport, Winamac

A nationwide 'No Kings' protest against President Trump’s policies was held on Saturday, June 14. Millions were reported to have participated in Saturday's demonstration from more than 2,100 cities and towns across the country, with around 30 protests being reported across the state of Indiana.

Logansport's demonstration brought hundreds of peaceful protesters to downtown Logansport from across the area holding signs and voicing their options. Among the community members lining Broadway Street, Sam Esquada, 18, of Logansport, carried a Mexican flag in support of his families heritage. Thankful and proud to be an American, Esqueda said the flag represented his parents, who traveled hundreds of miles looking for a better life for their family.

As a first generation American, Esqueda said he's seen the hardships many foreigners have to face. Esqueda says joining Saturday's protest represents immigrants, like his parents, and many other community members in Logansport who pay taxes working hard, thankless jobs.

Officers with the Logansport Police Department kept a close watch in the area and had extra patrol on duty who sat along the street during the protest. Organization volunteers asked protesters to put their signs away and stop the demonstration at 1 p.m. and no later in respect for the local law enforcement. The Cass County IN Democrats Alliance originally scheduled a free community BBQ two hours after the event, but rescheduled the 'Red or Blue We Feed You BBQ' event for June 21 from 2 p.m. to 5 p p.m. at the Little Turtle Waterway.

Winamac had their own 'No Kings' on Saturday, bringing around 80 demonstrators to the intersection of State Rd 14 and US 35. The photo above was provided by the Rochester based group dubbed the PerSisters, who joined Saturday's protest in Winamac.
