After weeks and months of study and discussion, the City of Lawrenceville will soon have golf carts traveling in city limits.

The city council voted 6-2 Thursday in favor of the adoption of a revised ordinance which will govern the use of the vehicles by residents. The revisions included Illinois Department of Transportation approved street crossing areas across State Street and 15th Street, which are state routes.

Mayor David Courtney told GIANT-fm News that the next step in the implementation of the ordinance is creating the administrative process, which will include inspection and licensing the golf carts and creating signage at those IDOT crossing area to make motorists and pedestrians aware of the potential of golf cart traffic at that location.

A firm timeline to get that done was not given.
