Firefighters from Plymouth, Argos, and LaPaz teamed up to battle a structure fire at a home on North Walnut Street Wednesday evening.
The initial call came in at 5:24 p.m., dispatching the Plymouth Fire Department to the residence located at 311 North Walnut Street. According to Assistant Chief Garcia, arriving crews found smoke billowing from the rear of the property and discovered a pergola fully engulfed in flames.
The fire quickly spread from the pergola to the property's garage and extended into a back addition of the two-story house.
While crews worked to knock down the exterior flames, another team of firefighters made entry into the residence. They were able to swiftly extinguish the flames inside the back room, successfully containing the interior fire damage to that specific area.

The intense heat from the blaze also caused the siding on a neighboring home to melt.
The LaPaz and Argos Fire Departments both responded to the scene, each providing an engine for mutual aid.
Officials confirmed that the home was occupied at the time the fire broke out, but all individuals were able to evacuate the residence safely. No injuries were reported to the occupants or first responders.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
