A Putnam County non-profit will benefit from a movie that highlights the realities of homelessness in America.
Beyond Homeless Incorporated will play a large part in the No Address movie, which is produced by Robert Craig Films, as it was selected to host a premiere.
The premiere will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 28 at Greencastle Christian Church. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and tickets are $11 for adults and $9 for children.
Lea Durbin, executive director of Beyond Homeless Incorporated, said the movie is an emotional journey into what it means to be homeless and what those living on the streets or in encampments deal with.
"My hope is the movie slaps people in the face. It is very well put together, and the storylines and plot lines are very realistic. I hope it helps change the narrative and changes the stigma of what it is like to be on the streets. It is being in an encampment where you feel safe and find your family. The characters in the movie come from all different backgrounds and issues and come together.
The movie is very impactful. I had to leave the room four times while watching it and I deal with this every single day. I hope it impacts people and helps our community come together to have conversations that need to be had," Durbin told The Putnam County Post.
It is her hope the community turns out in droves to not only see the movie, but understand the dynamics of homelessness and then be ready to have a conversation.
"I am hoping it changes the perception of homelessness. A lot of people think those who are homeless are lazy or someone who is a strung out addict, but that is not always the case and I hope this movie shows that," Durbin said.
