The City of Shelbyville’s sewer improvement project along McKay Road is expected to be completed this week.
“Milling and paving will be next week,” confirmed City of Shelbyville engineer John Kuntz at Wednesday’s Board of Works meeting at City Hall. “They should be done by the end of next week.”
The project has impacted traffic flow along McKay Road from Miller St. to Berwick Drive (photo) and forced Shelbyville Central Schools to alter bus arrival and departure patterns at both Shelbyville Middle School and Shelbyville High School since the beginning of the 2024-25 school year in early August.
In other Board of Works business Wednesday, Shelbyville Mayor Scott Furgeson announced the North Riley Highway project is expected to begin Tuesday. The northbound and southbound interior lanes and the turn lane will remain open during the start of the upcoming project.
The outer lanes both directions from Michigan Road to Rampart Road will be closed to allow for curb work and the installation of pedestrian pathways.

Lee Boulevard will be closed this week beginning Tuesday to do repair and painting work on the bridge near Blue River Memorial Park.
