Marshall County has been placed under a Travel Advisory, effective 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 29th, due to hazardous winter weather conditions.
The Marshall County Emergency Management Agency issued the advisory as snow and high winds create drifting and sporadic whiteout conditions across the county.
Marshall County is expected to receive 2 to 4 inches of snow on Monday, according to EMA officials. Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are causing significant snowdrifts that are nullifying plowing efforts.
Travel impacts are expected throughout Monday and possibly into the rest of the week as conditions persist.
A Travel Advisory is the lowest level of local travel restrictions. It means routine travel or activities may be restricted in certain areas because of hazardous situations, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.
Travel advisories are indicated in yellow on statewide travel status maps.
EMA Director Jack Garner is urging residents to avoid traveling if at all possible, to allow road crews safe operating conditions.
"Staying home will also help our public safety officials more efficiently respond to emergencies," Garner said.
Residents should monitor local media and the Marshall County EMA for updates, including an eventual return to normal travel status.
