Marshall County Jail Report: OWI, Driving While Suspended Top May Booking List

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel has released the May 2026 jail report, showing 141 total bookings at the Marshall County Jail last month. Operating While Intoxicated and Driving While Suspended topped the list of the ten most common offenses upon intake.

The most frequent reasons for booking were:

Operating While Intoxicated — 21
Driving While Suspended — 20
Possession of Marijuana — 18
Failure to Appear — 15
Operator Never Licensed — 14
Domestic Battery — 9
Public Intoxication — 7
Battery — 6
Disorderly Conduct — 6
Possession of Paraphernalia — 6

Of the 141 bookings in May, deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff's Department led all agencies with 70 arrests. Officers with the Plymouth Police Department made 52 arrests. Bremen Police accounted for 5 arrests, Culver Police made 6, Indiana State Police troopers made 3, Community Corrections had 2, Argos Police made 2, and the Department of Natural Resources had 1 arrest.

The jail report date was June 5th, when the facility housed 117 inmates — 92 males and 25 females. On that date, 3 inmates were serving time on misdemeanor charges, and 22 were serving on felony charges. Of the remaining population, 76 were being held pre-trial, 13 were awaiting arraignment, 2 were held for another agency, and 1 was a court-ordered hold.

The average daily population in May 2026 was 120, a notable decrease from 146 in November 2025 and 148 in May 2025.

Marshall County Sheriff's deputies investigated 54 accidents in May — 45 involving property damage and 9 with personal injuries. Deputies initiated 80 case reports, issued 173 warnings or traffic citations, and conducted 19 security checks.

The Marshall County Central Dispatch Center answered 5,772 calls in May. Of those, 1,254 were 911 calls, with 99.84% answered within 10 seconds or less. The Sheriff's Department responded to 1,340 calls for service during the month.
