A two-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 in Cass County left one woman dead and two others injured Tuesday.
According to a press release issued by the Cass County Sheriff's Office, just after 3 p.m., several calls were made to the Cass County Central Dispatch about a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 24 near the intersection of County Road 600 East.
An initial scene assessment revealed Carrie March, 47, of Logansport, had been traveling in a 2009 Ford Escape northbound on County Road 600 East before it crossed the eastbound lane into the westbound lane on U.S. 24, failing to yield the right of way. March's vehicle was struck by a 2019 Nissan Rogue driven by Julia McElheny, 39, of Logansport, who was traveling in the westbound lane.
McElheny and her 3-year-old passenger both received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
March received was airlifted from the scene to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours for the crash investigation and debris removal.
Responding agencies at the scene included the New Waverly Fire Department, Walton Fire Department, Logansport Police Department, Cass County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police and Cass County EMS.
Impaired driving is not believed to be a factor in the crash, however, the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the sheriff's office at 574-753-7800.
