The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) has signed off on it's annual five year Crossing Safety Improvement Program for FY 2024-2029 to implement safety upgrades at highway-rail crossings across the state. Over $410 million from the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) and Rebuild Illinois funds will help local communities and railroads pay for much-needed safety improvements at 1,310 crossings. One of those FY 2024 crossing projects is here in Lawrence County. The CSX crossing located on CR 700E near Bridgeport is scheduled for grade separation and reconstruction work. The total project cost will be just over $2.3 million with over $1.4 million of the cost coming from the GCPF.
