The Illinois State Police (ISP) have announced that upgrading has occurred at 9-1-1 call centers located across the state.

All 169 call centers have now transitioned over to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) replacing traditional voice-centric networks with secure IP-based infrastructure designed to support more modern communications.

ISP officials say this will provide more efficient and reliable emergency services for Lawrence County and other state residents. One of the most important improvements is the shift from routing wireless 9-1-1 calls based on the location of the nearest cell tower to geospatial routing based on the caller's actual location. This will reduce delays by ensuring calls are immediately directed to the closest emergency services, rather than needing to be transferred between agencies.
