The Haynes Apperson Festival Queen Pageant is making its highly anticipated return as part of the festival’s historic 50th anniversary celebration, marking the first time in over 15 years that the pageant will be held.
This revival brings new energy to a long-standing community tradition, offering young women the opportunity to grow in confidence, develop leadership skills, and represent the Kokomo community in a meaningful way.
The pageant will take place on June 17, 2026, in downtown Kokomo, and is open to young women ages 16–21 who live, work, attend school, or regularly attend church in Howard County.
“We are so excited to have the pageant return. The timing is perfect as we celebrate our 50th anniversary and this adds the opportunity to celebrate some incredible young women in our community.” said Haynes Apperson Chairman Paul Wyman. “We can’t thank Chanteal enough for her leadership.” he added.
“This isn’t just about a crown,” said Chanteal VanCamp, Pageant Director. “It’s about creating a space where young women feel seen, build confidence, and step into leadership within their community—especially during such a milestone year for the festival.”
Contestants will compete in several categories, including:
- Opening Introduction & Presentation
- Private Interview
- Evening Wear
- On-Stage Question
- Essay Submission
The winner will be crowned Haynes Apperson Festival Queen and will receive:
- Official crown and sash
- Festival appearances and community recognition
- Sponsor gifts and floral presentation
- Coaching from a former Mrs. Indiana United States
- The opportunity to represent the festival at the State Festival Queen Pageant
Applications are now open, with a deadline of June 1, 2026, or until all contestant spots are filled.
“This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate 50 years of the Haynes Apperson Festival,” the director added. “Bringing the pageant back is a way to honor tradition while creating new opportunities for the next generation.”
Community members are encouraged to support the contestants and attend the event as part of the festival’s anniversary festivities.
