For almost two years as mayor, Lynda Dunbar has talked about how exciting it is to be in Greencastle.
The excitement could hit a new level as several new food options will be arriving in the city soon.
Church's Texas Chicken is set to open in the old KFC building within the Putnam Plaza, while Little Caesars Pizza will open Oct. 7 in the Shoppes of Greencastle. In addition, at last week's City Council meeting Dunbar announced that Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins will look to fill the former Dairy Queen building at Putnam Plaza by the end of the year.
"It's an exciting time to be in Greencastle. We have a lot of excitement and a lot of folks looking to come to a small town. We do have some new businesses coming in," Dunbar told The Putnam County Post.
The excitement also extends into downtown, as Dunbar confirmed several new businesses are slated to come downtown in the coming months.
"We have some businesses that have sold downtown and there's some excitement downtown as well. It's an exciting time to be in Greencastle. I know we have had a lot of construction, but you've got to have construction before you can see the positive or growth out of it," Dunbar added.
After having to deal with US 231 construction, as well as Covid in recent years, downtown merchants have struggled at times, but Dunbar said the tide is turning. She acknowledged it is one of her missions to make Greencastle a place investors and business owners want to not only visit but stay.
"We want to be known as a community where business is welcomed and through our comprehensive plans, I think you are going to see Greencastle is open for business. We are trying to make it easier for businesses to come and set up shop and even in some new areas where we don't currently have businesses," Dunbar said.
While the bulk of the new restaurants will be situated on the East Side of Greencastle, Dunbar admits the entire city is presented to potential investors and business owners.
"That's good, but when we have developers coming to town, we just don't show the East Side. We show the potential all over Greencastle and that Greencastle has a lot of good, prime locations for business to go. All of our neighborhoods are going to be exciting and welcoming, and we try to present Greencastle as a whole," Dunbar said.
