Interested in learning more about forest management?
If so, please consider signing up for the Forestry Field Day planned for August 23rd. Throughout the Forestry Field Day, participants will learn about:
Concepts of Forestry Management;
Tree Identification;
Forest Management to Enhance Wildlife Habitat & Timber Production;
How to Mark & Market Timber;
Chainsaw Safety & Use; and
Tree Felling
The Forestry Field Day will take place at the Nelson-Stokes-Lewman Woodland. This Purdue University property is located in the Central Till Plain natural region. Because this property has multiple forest types, it has held a variety of research projects, extension events, and land management objectives since acquisition in 1960. The Nelson-Stokes-Lewman Woodland is located about a half mile North of US HWY 36 on what used to be County Road 700 W near Morton, IN.
Individuals wanting to attend the Forestry Field Day should register with the Putnam County Extension Office at 765-653-8411 or smith535@purdue.edu. Please note that this program includes a walking tour across some rough terrain. Please dress accordingly. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Forestry Field Day is sponsored by Purdue Extension Putnam County and the Putnam County Soil & Water Conservation District.
If you need accommodations to attend the Forestry Field Day, please contact Jenna Nees at 765-653-8411 or smith535@purdue.edu by August 15. If you need an interpreter or translator, please contact Jenna Nees prior to the meeting at 765-653-8411 or smith535@purdue.edu by August 15.
