The Unites States Geological Survey (USGS) reports there was a mild earthquake in southwestern Indiana late last week.
The magnitude 2.6 tremor was detected Friday in the Cynthiana / Poseyville area around 3 p.m. CT. That is about 10-20 miles north of Evansville and around 30 miles east of Carmi in White County, Illinois.
It had a depth of approximately 18.8 kilometers.
The quake was felt over a small area. No damage was reported. The tremor was the latest in a series of sporadic events in the New Madrid Fault area, a multi-state region of Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Missouri prone to potential earth movements.
