A death investigation is underway after a person was found hanging under a bridge near 200 South and US 35 near Winamac on Thursday.
The hanging was discovered by a boater passing by the bridge, who alerted authorities. The Winamac Volunteer Fire Department and officers from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department used rope rescue techniques and the UTV's winching system to safely lower the body, which had been hanging from over 30 feet in the air under the bridge.
The Winamac Police Department, Pulaski EMS and Pulaski County Coroner's office also responded to the scene.
“It was a true benefit to have a winching system available for this situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased. May god speed,“ said Pulaski County Sheriff Chief Deputy Fred Rogers about the incident.
An investigation on the incident remains ongoing and no further information has been made available to the public.
