A 26-year-old Wisconsin man was killed Thursday night when a semi-truck struck the pickup truck he was sitting in, parked on the shoulder of U.S. 30, west of the U.S. 31 intersection.
Thomas J. Diener of Wisconsin was pronounced dead at the scene after being ejected from his 2024 Ford F250 during the collision, which occurred at approximately 9:36 p.m. on December 11th.
According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Abdussalam A. Noor, 47, of Maryland, was driving a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer westbound on U.S. 30 when he struck Diener's Ford F250. The pickup truck was stopped on the shoulder behind a Bettcher's Towing wrecker, which was towing a white utility truck.
Marshall County Central Dispatch received reports of a multi-vehicle crash with one vehicle engulfed in flames. First responders arrived to find the collision in the westbound lanes of U.S. 30, just west of the U.S. 31 intersection. The flames originated from the front axle tires that came loose from the semi.
The force of the impact ejected Diener from the pickup truck. Despite attempts by first responders to assist him, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Three other individuals sustained injuries in the crash and were transported to Memorial Hospital:
- Robbie D. Betts, passenger in the Ford F250
- Carter Haen, passenger in the Ford F250
- Ryan W. Carnahan, operator of the Bettcher's Towing wrecker
The Marshall County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the crash. No additional information has been released at this time.
