A police pursuit on Monday night, July 21st, ended with the suspect crashing a sports bike and being injured.
At 10:53 p.m., a Marshall County Sheriff’s Department deputy attempted to stop a sports bike traveling northbound on U.S. 31 for traffic violations.
The operator of the sports bike, Owen Shumaker, 20, fled from the deputy before crashing and sustaining injuries. Shumaker was taken to a local hospital following the crash. Police did not indicate where he is from.
Charges will be filed with the Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney's office.
The Argos Police Department assisted in the pursuit.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed, and there is only probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings, entitled to be represented by counsel, and entitled to a trial jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
