This is the weekend when we lose an hour of sleep as clocks "spring forward" for the start of daylight saving time.
At 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12, the clocks will jump directly to 3 a.m., differing from the autumn time change when clocks "fall back" to 1 a.m. upon the conclusion of daylight saving time.
While the U.S. Senate approved legislation last year that would have made daylight saving time permanent, the bill stalled in a House committee and was not voted on prior to the end of the previous Congress.
The time change is also a good time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors.
