City police arrest Mason Thorne for OWI

A customer of Handy Spot Liquor Store who appeared to be intoxicated was arrested after leaving the store on February 27^th.

Just after 2 p.m. on Thursday, officers with the Plymouth Police Department were called to 500 West Jefferson Street for a man in the Handy Spot Liquor Store who appeared to be intoxicated and had just left the store.

Officers could not locate the vehicle immediately, but shortly after, Officer Fisher was on Michigan Street and spotted a car with the same license plate pulling out of Millea's Liquor Store and heading south on Michigan Street. The officer observed the driver almost collide with the rear end of a turning vehicle.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle, and the driver was later identified as Mason Thorne, 25, who the officer listed as being from Knox, while the booking sheet said Halloway Drive in Plymouth.

A strong odor of alcoholic beverage came from Thorne, and his eyes were glassy. Field sobriety testing was conducted, a portable breath test was given, and Thorne blew .241 on the PBT. He consented to the certified blood draw and was transported to Plymouth Hospital. The certified blood draw showed Thorne's blood alcohol content to be .310.

Thorne was then medically cleared and transported to Marshall County Jail, where he was booked in for operating while intoxicated, operating while intoxicated above .15, and operating while intoxicated endangerment. He was held on a $1,500 cash bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed. The person charged is presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and is entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury, at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
