The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously voted Tuesday evening to dismiss firefighter/paramedic Sidney Roda from the Plymouth Fire Department, effective immediately, following a disciplinary hearing that found her guilty of four violations. Roda was with the department for three and a half years.
Local attorney Sean Surrisi served as counsel to the Board for the proceedings.
At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Board conducted an executive session to receive information concerning alleged misconduct by Roda. The session followed a recommendation of dismissal from Plymouth Fire Chief Steve Holm.
State statute allows such a hearing to be conducted in executive session, but the final decision must be made in a public meeting. Accordingly, a special meeting of the Board of Public Works and Safety was held Tuesday evening at approximately 7:10 p.m.
Near the end of the executive session, board members deliberated on the evidence and arguments presented and reached a consensus on a decision.
Attorney Surrisi prepared the Findings of Fact, required under state statute. The Board determined that Roda violated the rules on four counts:
- Violation of the rules
- Neglect or disobeying orders
- Conduct unbecoming an officer
- Another breach of discipline
With these four findings, the Board of Public Works and Safety dismissed Sidney Roda from employment with the Plymouth Fire Department, effective immediately.
The motion to approve the Findings of Fact and terminate Roda's employment with the City of Plymouth passed the Board unanimously.
