12th District Republican U.S. Congressman Mike Bost has helped obtain over $25 million for the Evansville Western Railway to improve over 124 miles of its freight rail infrastructure stretching from Evansville in southwestern Indiana to Okawville in southern Illinois.
The funding is coming from the Federal Railroad Administration's Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvement Grant Program to support major upgrades to the company's tracks, equipment, and maintenance facilities.
The project includes replacing rails and ties, installation of hot bearing detectors, construction of a new locomotive maintenance building and locomotive rehabilitation work.
These improvements will help ensure more dependable freight service for businesses throughout Southern Illinois and Southwestern Indiana.
