Austin Ward presented with Eagle Scout Award

Austin Ward, a Plymouth Scout has earned the Boy Scout’s highest rank advancement. A member of Troop #247, Ward is one of only approximately 6 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Dwight Noble.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue-related service project to earn his Eagle Scout Award. Ward chose to remodel one of the restrooms at his church, Plymouth Trinity United Methodist.

When asked what he learned from his experiences in this project he stated, “I learned that service affects more people than you realize.” He continued, “Many people I didn’t know have expressed their appreciation for the work of the remodel.”

Ward, a senior at Plymouth High School, is also very active in the Pride of Plymouth Band Program participating in the Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. He has done numerous extra-curricular band activities such as the variety show and musical pit orchestra. He was selected to perform in the IBA All-District Honor Band. Ward is also involved in the Robotics Program at PHS.

As far as his future plans are concerned, he has been accepted to attend either the University of Alabama or Purdue University majoring in Aeronautical Engineering and will make his decision before graduation from high school.

He is the son of Lori Hoshaw and the late Brandon Hoshaw.

Asked what he would tell any nine-year-old interested in scouting he said, “Scouting is a lot of fun from beginning to end.”
