21 new troopers graduate from the 85th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy.
The 85th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy completed its graduation ceremony Thursday, and of the 21 new troopers, four have been assigned to the ISP Peru Post.
Troopers Brock J. Green, of Kokomo, Kyle L. Lafferty, of Wabash, and Adam J. Kirk and Joshua W. Lohse, both of Peru, will spend the next three months working alongside several experienced field training officers at the ISP Peru Post. The purpose of the field training, required of all new troopers at their assigned district, is to put to practical application the training received throughout the academy. Upon successful completion, troopers are assigned a state police patrol vehicle and begin solo patrol.
The graduation ceremony was held Thursday evening in the Indiana State Capitol Rotunda. Opening remarks and the commencement address were made by Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter
After the commencement address, the oath of office for the new troopers was delivered by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Christopher M. Goff. Each trooper was then presented their badge and official identification by Carter and his staff.
The graduation marked the culmination of 24 weeks of training, totaling more than 1,100 hours. Some subject areas of training included criminal and traffic law, de-escalation, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, firearms, impaired driving detection, scenario-based training, and a host of other academic subjects related to modern policing.
Each graduating trooper was assigned to one of the 14 state police posts across Indiana.
