December Jail & Sheriff's Dept. Report

During December, police officers from around Marshall County booked 120 people into the County Jail.  The top ten reasons for being booked into the jail were #10 resisting law enforcement with five arrests, #9 possession of cocaine or narcotics with six bookings, #8 possession of paraphernalia with seven arrests, #7 possession of methamphetamine with seven bookings, and #6 domestic battery with ten arrests.   The December top five intakes into the jail were #5 driving while suspended with thirteen bookings, #4 possession of marijuana with 14 arrests, #3 operator never licensed with 15 bookings, #2 operating while intoxicated with twenty arrests and #1 was failure to appear with twenty-two bookings. 

Arrests in December by departments were one for Bremen Police, and Bourbon Police had two along with Community Corrections, Argos and Culver Police Department each made three arrests last month, and Troopers with the Indiana State Police made 10 arrests.  Officers from the Plymouth Police Department arrested 39 individuals in December, and Deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department had 60 arrests.

The day of the jail report was January 17^th, when 116 inmates were lodged in the county jail. Seventeen were serving time with misdemeanor charges, seventy-nine were pre-trial inmates, nineteen were awaiting arraignment, and one was on a court-order hold. Of the 116 inmates, 95 were males, and 21 were females.

The average daily population in December was 120 inmates.  Six months earlier, in June 2024, the average daily population was 131; one year earlier, in December 2023, the average daily population was 149.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department investigated 109 accidents in December. Of these, 87 caused property damage only, 21 caused personal injuries, and 1 caused a fatality.

County officers drew 62 case reports, issued 102 citations or warnings, and conducted 22 security checks.

There are a total of 1272 active warrants waiting to be served.

Marshall County Central Dispatch answered 3,756 calls in December. 1,163 were 911 calls answered in 10 seconds or less, and 1,217 were service calls for the Sheriff’s Department.
