Civilians & Soldiers in History Day will be Saturday, July 20th, at the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum, located in North Judson.
This annual event is scheduled to have numerous displays, reenactors, and events depicting various eras of civilian and military life from the Civil War to the modern day. This is a free event and includes the museum grounds. HVRM has a restored WWII Pullman Troop Car; a large collection of working railroad signals; all types of rolling stock, engines, and memorabilia of a bygone era.
There will be a nominal fee for the 10-mile, round-trip diesel and steam train excursions through the Indiana countryside. Numerous diesel and steam train excursions depart from the depot area from 10:00 AM (Central Time) until 8:00 PM CT. Who knows what adventures await passengers as they travel about five miles to the Kankakee River at English Lake, before returning to North Judson. The total length of each trip is approximately 45 minutes. Passengers have their choice of riding in open-air sightseeing cars, a vintage coach, and/or caboose. Ticket prices begin at $14.00. Purchasing train tickets, in advance, at www.hoosiervalley.org, is recommended, as the trains may sell out.
Steam excursions will run, again, on Sunday, July 21st, at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM (Central Time). Steam excursions are scheduled on numerous Saturdays and/or Sundays throughout the remainder of the 2024 season.
HVRM is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and education of railroading history. Special group events (including school groups) can be arranged by contacting the depot.
Regular train excursions will run on Saturdays through the end of September. Future HVRM events planned for this season are Pumpkin, Twilight, & Halloween Trains in October and Santa Trains in late November & December. Times and prices for special events vary from regular train excursions. Remember that seating is limited for these special events, and it is recommended to purchase tickets, in advance, before excursions sell out.
Visit the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum website (www.hoosiervalley.org) for a complete schedule of events. Order tickets at www.hoosiervalley.org or call the depot (574-896-3950) on Saturdays or days when train excursions are scheduled.
