Bremen High School vote center relocated to Bremen Missionary Church

Marshall County voters in the Presidential Election in November will have a new vote center in Bremen.

During Thursday’s Marshall County Election Board, members voted to move the vote center out of Bremen High School due to safety concerns. 

Marshall County Clerk, Jenny Bennett said concerned parents from the school have contacted the superintendent regarding security and safety concerns with the public being able to enter the school on election days to vote.  Dr. White contacted the County Clerk with their concerns and asked if the election board could consider another location in Bremen.  Bennett told the board she contacted the Bremen Missionary Church at 2958 Elm Road, and they were willing to have the vote center back at the church.  It has been there before but was moved when the school wanted to get students involved and encouraged in the voting process.

Bennett said the church is on the east side of town and the other vote center at the Pines is on the west side of town.  She said the church has a large parking lot, is handicap accessible, and has a gymnasium where the voting machines can be located on election day. 

Election Board member Steve Harper was concerned about moving the polling site for the Presidential Election since it is such a big race with lots of voters. He warned of a lot of phone calls that day asking where to vote and suggested having someone at the school to direct voters to the two polling sites in Bremen.

The county clerk felt it was a good time to make the change because so many more people would be voting in the Presidential Election. She also said they need to take into consideration the request of the school for safety and security reasons.

The motion to move the voting site from Bremen High School to the Bremen Missionary Church unanimously passed the Marshal County Election Board.
