Local and area law enforcement authorities across southeastern Illinois are reminding Lawrence County residents and others to secure all vehicles during this Christmas holiday shopping season.
The warning is being issued due to a recent influx of reported vehicle thefts from across the region. To help prevent theft:
Lock vehicle doors
Remove keys/key fobs
Do not leave vehicles running unattended
Hide or remove valuables from plain sight
Police say that vehicle thefts are crimes of opportunity and can occur quickly and often. Taking just a few extra minutes to lock and secure your vehicle can reduce the risk of auto theft
