The city of Sumner has announced that a major street project will begin later this month.
The bid letting process for the Christy Avenue paving work has now been completed. It is currently scheduled to begin on Monday, April 20th and is expected to take approximately one to two weeks to complete, weather conditions permitting.
The city and Lawrence County have entered into an intergovernmental agreement to handle the project. It is being paid for through a $450,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation received by the city.
During the duration of the work, motorists are asked to use caution when traveling in the area and allow for additional travel time until the project is done.
