Plymouth High School Head Football Coach Ron Shaffer has resigned from his position, Athletic Director Josh Troyer announced Wednesday evening, departing after less than four months with the program.
Shaffer, who was hired by the Plymouth School Board at the end of January 2026, also served as Dean of Students. His resignation from both roles is effective immediately.
In his message to school leadership, Shaffer indicated the decision was not made impulsively. He shared that after "careful consideration," he believes stepping aside is "the right thing to do for the program and Plymouth High School," adding that the decision "was not made lightly."
Troyer did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the resignation but emphasized that the school's priority now is ensuring stability for student-athletes and the coaching staff as the program moves forward.
"We appreciate the continued support of Plymouth Athletics," Troyer said, adding that Plymouth High School will work quickly and thoughtfully to determine next steps for the football program.
The timing of the departure — coming ahead of the summer practice season — leaves the school in the position of needing to find a replacement in short order. No information was provided regarding an interim arrangement or a timeline for the head coaching search.
