Putnamville’s new probationary trooper is Caleb Hughes, a native of Sullivan.
Twenty-one newly appointed probationary troopers recently graduated from the 85th Indiana State Police Academy.
One of those probationary troopers is being assigned to the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post and will begin his next phase of training, a three-month field training period, riding with veteran troopers. The purpose of the field training is to put into practical application the training received over the duration of the formal academy. Upon successful completion of field training, the trooper will be assigned a state police patrol vehicle and will begin solo patrol. This trooper has already completed over 1,200 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques as well as hands-on and scenario-based training at the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. The curriculum included criminal law instruction, emergency vehicle operations, psychology, traffic law, crash investigation, self-defense, first responder, and other general enforcement related training.
Putnamville’s new probationary trooper is Caleb Hughes, a native of Sullivan, Indiana, and graduate of Sullivan Community High School. After graduating from high school he attended Ivy Tech Community College. Hughes also worked for the IronWorkers 22 out of Terre Haute and has served as a member of the Spruce River Volunteer Fire Department in West Virginia. Hughes enjoys football and volunteers his time by coaching at the Sullivan Youth League.

District Commander Lieutenant Dave Cox stated that he is very excited to receive Trooper Hughes to the district and cannot wait for the probationary trooper to start aiding the public and enforcing state law.
