Guilty plea follows confession of selling large quantities of "raid" meth
A Logansport man pleaded guilty Monday to several charges stemming from an incident in 2023, when he confessed to police that he had been selling large quantities of "raid" meth.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Lonnie Pope Jr, 56, of Logansport, was pulled over by police for illegal lane movement in March 2023. During that traffic stop, a police dog detected drugs inside Pope's vehicle. After a search was issued on the vehicle, officers would discover more than 200 grams of methamphetamine, holding an estimated street value of more than $16,000.
Pope allegedly confessed to police that he had been dealing large quantities of meth laced with insecticide. Pope claimed that users had claimed to get high on the crystals sprayed with pest killer, reporting feelings of deja vu and hallucinatory smells.
Pope faces a charge for dealing methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony, which could mean 10 to 30 years in prison. Pope is also looking at an additional six to 20 years for being a habitual offender.
