A longtime law enforcement officer in Lawrence County is retiring.
The Bridgeport City Council, meeting Tuesday night, officially accepted the retirement letter of Police Chief Danny Ash, effective at the end of May, ending over 26 years as a police officer.
Over the years, Ash has been involved in the creation of a regional SWAT team, a K-9 officer handler from 2003 through 2019, a school resource officer for the Red Hill Unit #10 school district and police chief for the city of Bridgeport for a lengthy period.
After Ash leaves, officer Jordan Feutz will move up to become the new chief of police. The council recently hired Tristan Kleinschmidt as a new officer. He will undergo academy training before returning to join the force and begin patrol duty.
