Woman from South Bend arrested after driving in reverse in wrong lanes

A 31-year-old woman was arrested Sunday night after a Marshall County Sheriff's deputy observed her driving in reverse in the wrong lanes of traffic.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, when Deputy Truty with the Marshall County Dept encountered a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes while in reverse.

The officer initiated a traffic stop to investigate the unusual driving behavior, and during the investigation, discovered that the driver, Quanesha Samone Winston, of South Bend, did not possess a valid driver's license.

Winston was transported to the Marshall County Jail and charged with operating a motor vehicle without ever receiving a license. She was held on a $100 bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. Those charged are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
