SAWs continues to aid Putnam County

Greencastle Presbyterian Church minister Wes Kendall cannot help but break out into a smile when he talks about the help Servants at Work (SAWs) has done across Putnam County since 2009. 

Since its inception, SAWs has provided accessibility ramps and steps to disabled residents of the county at no cost. Since 2009, SAWs has helped over 250 residents find freedom. 

"We have an amazing ministry that happens through SAWs. John Anderson has been our longtime leader of that ministry. SAWs builds handicap ramps for free for those who can't afford them otherwise. We will always be open to talk to you if you have someone going through treatment, nearing end of life or what have you," Kendall told The Putnam County Post. 

Anyone interested in learning more can call the church at 765-653-5713. 

"We usually build between 15 to 20 ramps every year. We would love to build a ramp for you. With the cost of lumber and everything, most of those ramps would cost about $1,200 to $1,500 in materials alone. This team, which is extremely dedicated, gets out and works with you and they build a ramp that works for you and your family," Kendall said. 

Kendall said some of the most amazing things that has happened to him has been when he has been present for a SAWs build and sees people come out of their house for the first time because of the ramp. 

"When someone who has been in a wheelchair comes out and sees they have access to get outside again and the freedom they have, it is the best thing in the world. I am extremely grateful to those people who put this ministry together. It is the best thing. The smiles on their faces, and it doesn't matter what age or socioeconomic background, it is new life for these people and it means the world to them," Kendall said.
