Marshall County Community Clean Up Challenge begins Monday

The Marshall County Community Cleanup Challenge kicks off today and runs through April 28.  The committee is inviting residents, businesses, and organizations to join forces in cleaning up litter across the county. This community-wide effort, led by the Marshall County Recycle Depot, is an opportunity for individuals and groups to take action in making their neighborhoods, parks, and businesses cleaner and more beautiful.

Participation is simple: grab a trash bag, head to a needy area, and collect litter. Bagged trash can be brought to the Recycle Depot during business hours or by appointment.

Executive Director Marianne Peters encourages residents to get involved, saying, "The Community Cleanup Challenge is a chance for all of us to step up and take pride in the place we call home. Litter doesn’t just disappear — it takes people willing to make a difference. Whether you clean up your own street or gather a group to tackle a bigger project, every effort helps. Let’s work together to make Marshall County a cleaner and greener place to live."

During business hours, participants can pick up trash bags and personal protective equipment at the Recycle Depot at 1900 Walter Glaub Drive in Plymouth. A roll-off box is available at the Depot for dropping off bagged litter. While large items cannot be accepted, participants may presort aluminum cans, glass and plastic beverage containers for recycling if they are clean and dry. Yard signs are also available to help promote the cleanup effort.

Community members and groups are encouraged to document their cleanup efforts by sharing photos on social media and tagging the Recycle Depot and their local communities to help spread awareness and inspire others to participate.

Since its introduction in 2020, the Community Cleanup Challenge has grown yearly, with civic groups, businesses, and individuals stepping up to keep Marshall County looking its best.

Organizers hope this year’s challenge will increase participation as residents unite to make a lasting impact.
