Man struck by Niles driver following Blueberry Fireworks

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle leaving the Fireworks Show at the Blueberry Festival Sunday night.

Just after 10 p.m., August 31^st, Plymouth Patrolmen Thornton and Allen were conducting foot patrols in Centennial Park during the Blueberry Festival when they were advised of a vehicle that had struck a person, resulting in injuries.

The officers located the victim southeast of Randolph Street and Plymouth-Goshen Trail.  The male sustained a minor ankle injury, and a witness was able to identify the suspect as Matthew Colglazier, 52, of Niles, Michigan.  The victim and witness said Colglazier had intentionally struck him with a vehicle because he was angry pedestrians were not moving out of his way fast enough following the fireworks.

Paramedics from Plymouth Fire attended to the victim, and Colglazier was placed under arrest. He was then transported to Marshall County Jail and booked on a preliminary felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
