The Plymouth Park Board met last week to review and approve several community requests, greenlighting a summer pool agreement for the local Boys & Girls Club and granting facility access for several upcoming charitable events.
Continuing a long-standing community partnership, the board unanimously approved a request from the Plymouth Boys & Girls Club to use the community pool in Centennial Park during the upcoming summer season.
Under the approved agreement, club members will have access to the pool twice a week from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The club will pay a flat fee of $300 for the year and will provide its own staff to help supervise the children during their swim times.
The board also unanimously approved a request from Larry Starr for the free use of the VFW Shelter in River Park Square on April 18. The shelter will host a special "Quilts of Valor" presentation.
Founded in 2003, the Quilts of Valor Foundation aims to honor the service and sacrifice of military personnel by covering service members and veterans touched by war with comforting, handmade quilts. Starr noted that several local veterans will be honored and presented with quilts during the afternoon ceremony.
Looking ahead to the fall, the board granted Kayla Pittman free use of the Freyman Shelter on October 4 for the 2nd Annual Down Syndrome Awareness Walk.
Pittman, the proud mother of two boys, including her youngest who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, organized the inaugural event last year. The highly successful first walk raised nearly $20,000 to support local therapists in the community.
This year's fundraiser, which will be assisted by the Delta Theta Tau sorority, will feature a run/walk, food trucks, raffles, and a 50/50 drawing.
Finally, the board approved a donation request for a 2026 Family Pool Pass to benefit Operation Quiet Comfort. The pass will be featured in the silent auction at the organization's "Celebrate & Support Our Troops" fundraiser on Thursday, April 16. The park board noted that this has been an annual donation to help support the organization's mission.
