Units of the Lawrence-Allison Fire Protection District (LAFPD) were mobilized Saturday afternoon to an apartment building fire in Lawrenceville.
Firefighters were dispatched to Clyde Smith Manor located at 1109 12th Street where a fire was reported. It was brought under control and extinguished quickly. However, heavy smoke on the third floor did cause the evacuation of residents into a Lawrence Unit #20 school bus until they were allowed back in. Both the Bridgeport and Christy Fire Protection Districts responded to the scene in mutual aid to assist in the residential search and evacuation. No details on a cause or damage estimate have been released.
Smith Manor is a senior housing complex with HUD-subsidized units overseen by the Lawrence County Housing Authority.
