Two bridge construction projects in Lawrence County are moving forward after being approved by the county board Wednesday.
Upon recommendation of county highway superintendent Aaron Mefford, they gave the go-ahead to petition for county aid to build a bridge over Indian Creek west of Lawrenceville. A resolution and joint funding agreement for the federally funded construction of a bridge on the east side of the village of Birds was also approved with the county to pay $40,000 as its portion of the costs. Work on those projects expected to begin in 2026.
The board reappointed John Phipps to a three-year term on the Racoon Creek Drainage District.
In a 10-minute executive session, they were updated by States Attorney Brady Waldrop on the status of the on-going 66-county Integrity Investment Fund tax deeds lawsuit of which Lawrence County is a part. It is anticipated that the court will not reach a decision in the case for several weeks.
