Erin Owens said it felt like divine intervention when she started Rochester's first Freedom in the Streets event last year at the Rochester City Park, bringing live Christian music, testimony and group prayer. This year Owen planned for an even bigger event at the Fulton County 4-H Fairgrounds on Sunday when she added Feed the 5,000 BBQ Ministry and One Cut at a Time for free food and haircuts, along with the Christian rap, rock and gospel music.
Freedom in the Streets made its second event in Rochester at the Fulton County 4-H Fairgrounds on Sunday, bringing live Christian music, testimony and prayer, along with vendors, free food and haircuts in the name of Jesus.
Started by Erin Owens in 2023, Owens said she was inspired by her own life troubles when the idea popped into her head. Hoping to get others out of the darkness with faith and hope for recovery, Owens said it felt like divine intervention when she made the event happen last year at the Rochester City Park. With the success of last year's event, this year Owen expanded things by adding Feed the 5,000 BBQ Ministry to the event that provided free food for attendees from donated meat Owens and her team put together. One Cut at a Time from Indianapolis also joined in, providing haircuts to anyone in need at the event. Owens said she hopes the event grows bigger and better as time goes on.
