A witness to a single-vehicle accident on Michigan Road, south of Tyler Road, called the Marshall County Central Dispatch Center on Monday, April 14th, reporting that she saw a vehicle drive off the road and into the ditch. The accident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m., and the caller advised that the female was moving and had a laceration to her head.
LaPaz Fire and EMS responded to the scene and county officers were dispatched.
Deputy Haygood investigated and learned that 82-year-old Janice Berrier of Lakeville was traveling north on Michigan Road. For an unknown reason, the 2012 Toyota Prius she was driving left the roadway on the east side of the road and down into the ditch.
Berrier was transported to Memorial Hospital. Reichert-Knepp was called to the scene to remove the vehicle.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings, entitled to be represented by counsel, and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
